marriages among syrian refugees and internally displaced

Sajeda, 24-year-old, became a newly registered bride after three years of marriage!

“I got married in 2012, just a few months before the fighting reached our neighborhood, and eventually we couldn’t register our marriage.”

Sajida, a young woman #DisplacedinSyria was recently relocated to the 1070 unfinished buildings shelter in #Aleppo along with her family of four. She approached UNHCR’s community center in Tishreen shelter seeking legal counseling, as her marriage was not yet registered.

Birth registration, documentation, and personal status are major issues for internally displaced people seeking legal aid. Civil registry and documentation are essential for accessing education, healthcare services, and other benefits. UNHCR provides legal #protection to displaced people through many services varying from legal awareness sessions to legal counseling.
