Syrian Army foils major ISIS offensive in Deir Ezzor

The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a major offensive in the Thardeh Mountains of Deir Ezzor on Thursday night, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s defensive positions near the strategic hilltop of Tal Kroum. For nearly 48 hours, the Islamic State and Syrian Arab Army were engaged in a violent firefight at the southeastern perimeter of the Thardeh Mountains. However, the Islamic State terrorists were unable to bypass the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses this weekend, suffering an estimated 30+ casualties during their failed offensive.
A security source at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport reported to Al-Masdar News on Saturday night that all points in Jabal Thardeh remain under their control, including some sites neaer the Tayyem Valley. The Islamic State launched two separate offensives inside the Deir Ezzor Governorate this weeked; however, these desperate attacks yielded no gains and cost the terrorist group several combatants.
